Women’s Wisdom
Always
By Mrs. Hinde Gordon
Sometimes
when the day is dreary with clouds cutting off the sun,
when the night is scary, with shadows flicking by my window
and strange noises in the hall,
when it’s hot and dry, the air oppressive and heavy,
limbs sluggish, breathing labored, mouth thirsting for water,
when life feels flat and dull and mean.
Sometimes
when tiredness becomes unbearable,
when loneliness hovers like an albatross,
when thoughts are empty,
when effort feels meaningless,
when dreams float far away.
Then, sometimes
the telephone rings …
there’s a knock at the door …
there’s a letter in the mail box.
Then, sometimes …
it’s you or you or you!
Then,
the air feels clear and fresh,
the sunlight breaks through.
Oh, yes, it’s you,
and my heart sings.
Then, finally
I remember
His gifts
life
love
energy
work
joy
you and you and you,
family, friend
friend, family.
All of His gifts,
His outpouring of miracles
too many to list.
Then,
I smile,
I laugh,
I jump,
I sing.
Joy bubbles up inside of me,
dispelling the darkness,
filling me with light.
Thank you, Hashem, for Your ever present goodness.
Please, Hashem, let me see, feel, know Your goodness
always,
not just sometimes.
Always.
